Who am I and what exactly is this system?.
I'm Brett.
I own a sales agency & marketing consultancy in the UK where I live with my wife and our 3 children.
After leaving school I didn't really have much of a career plan but with an adventurous spirit and a probably somewhat naive sense of optimism, I have managed to explore multiple careers across many unrelated industries.
From retail, recreational SCUBA diving leadership, coffee shop management, banking & finance, I.T, Cyber defensive operations to running my own sales agency and marketing consultancy ...I've done it and.. I was good at it - yep, as full-of-myself as that sounds (no contest from my wife here), I have done well in all my career endeavors.
BUT... It's not quite as sunny as it sounds.
You see, the things we are good at and not so good at act as natural filters that guide us in our lives and in our work, usually aligning with our inclinations. Ok there are times when we want to master something we struggle with - but the general pattern still holds true.
For me, not having these natural filters meant no deep connection in any of the careers I've had. Sure I enjoyed them but I had no sense of the greater trajectory of the overall course I was on. What was truly meant for me.
This left me with 2 questions I needed to answer:
How is it I manage to succeed at whatever I choose do? ( people have actually asked me this)
What actually is it that I'm 'supposed' to do?
Well, the answer to question1, I've realised (and others will queue up to agree ), is that I'm really good at saying 'NO'.
I analyse the objective information and quickly see the important bit,the point of truth, in any given situation and say 'NO' to everything else.
Everything else is cut away and left behind - I instinctively know what to focus on and what to disregard.
I decide confidently and quickly and any critical voice in my head telling me otherwise is....well....It never had a chance anyway.
My gut - or intuition, as many call it, is loud and clear and I know to listen to it. I trust it and follow it without exception.
We live in a world where information is readily available at our finger tips - facts, figures, objective data, it's all there for anything we need it for and we are getting better at analysing it. Cold, clinical analysing - but at what cost?, are we starting to lose our intuitive ability?, is information overload weakening this ancient skill set of ours and actually hindering our decision making?. I think it is.
In all of my ventures, past and present, I have met great people. Great people who struggle with making decisions. They collect all the data, facts and viewpoints of others and yet still feel unable to decide. Unable to move forwards. This is alien to me, I don't get stuck like this!.
With this, I realised I could help these people. I could teach them my way and put them back on track and in doing so, I found my answer to question 2.
How can I teach others this skill? - well that's the special part.
